Lifting barriers to onshore wind and solar power could produce 13 times more electricity than current levels generated by these sources in England, according to new research from Exeter University’s Environmental Intelligence Centre and Friends of the Earth.

Costly and time-intensive to build, infrastructure is a key challenge of the energy transition. Repurposing existing infrastructure such as pipelines to transport alternative fuels such as CO2 or hydrogen can help accelerate the transition while reducing cost and waste. New Energy Institute (EI) technical guidance aims to assist industry in this regard.
