TotalEnergies Chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanné awarded Honorary Fellowship of the Energy Institute

03/07/2026

Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TotalEnergies, has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the Energy Institute in recognition of his leadership and contribution to the global energy sector and the evolving energy transition.

Pouyanné has led TotalEnergies through a period of significant transformation, overseeing the company’s strategic development as an integrated energy major. Under his leadership, the organisation has expanded its portfolio across oil, gas, electricity and renewables, while pursuing a pragmatic approach to delivering energy security, affordability and lower-carbon solutions.

A prominent and influential voice in global energy dialogue, Patrick has consistently engaged with industry, policymakers and wider stakeholders on the challenges and opportunities shaping the transition. Patrick will next year be speaking at the Energy Institute’s flagship event, International Energy Week, taking place in London from 23-25 March 2027.

Patrick was formally presented his Honorary Fellowship at a meeting with Energy Institute President Andy Brown, at a meeting in Paris, in recognition of his longstanding contribution to advancing understanding and leadership across the international energy landscape.

Energy Institute President and Deputy Chair of Ørsted, Andy Brown OBE FEI, commented:

“Patrick Pouyanné is one of the most prominent and influential leaders in the global energy sector, guiding one of the world’s largest energy companies through a period of profound change.

“His leadership reflects the scale and complexity of the energy transition - balancing security, affordability and sustainability - while helping to shape the evolving role of integrated energy companies in the decades ahead. We are delighted to welcome him as an Honorary Fellow of the Energy Institute.”

Commenting, Patrick Pouyanné HonFEI said:

“I would like to deeply thank the Energy Institute and its President Andy Brown for this distinction. It is a privilege to be made an Honorary Fellow of the Institute.

“At a time when energy demand continues to grow, we must continue to provide the energy the world needs today while reducing our emissions and building the low-carbon energy system of tomorrow. Progress requires pragmatism and a constant effort to balance security of supply, affordability and sustainability – the trilemma at the heart of the global energy challenge.

“This is the guiding principle of our strategy at TotalEnergies. One that has driven our Company since 1924, and that we continue to pursue today as an integrated multi-energy company.”

Honorary Fellowship is awarded by the Energy Institute Council, to individuals who have made a significant and lasting contribution to advancing the Institute’s mission - namely the promotion for the public benefit of the science of energy and fuels in all applications and uses.

Recent recipients include former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull HonFEI; Engie CEO Catherine MacGregor HonFEI; and UAE Minister and COP28 President Dr Sultan Al Jaber HonFEI.
