Overview:
Jointly published by the EI and JIG (Joint Inspection Group).
EI/JIG 1530 provides a Standard to assist all parties in the maintenance of aviation fuel quality, from its point of manufacture through to delivery to airports. The Standard includes industry-accepted mandatory provisions and good practice recommendations for the design/functional requirements of facilities, and operational procedures that apply upstream of airports.
Originally developed and published in 2013, this new edition has been fully revised with input from over 100 aviation fuel quality specialists representing nearly 50 organisations. A line has been included in the margin of this publication alongside any text, tables or figures that have been amended from the first edition. Notably, the standard has been made less jet fuel-specific with the inclusion of aviation gasoline (avgas) when appropriate.
Requirements are specified for aviation fuel quality assurance and traceability; management of change; sampling and testing of fuel; fuel testing laboratories; fuel manufacture; handling and application of aviation fuel additives; aviation fuel receipt, batching, certification and release; bulk fuel storage; ocean tankers, coastal and inland waterway vessels; and transportation by pipeline, rail, road and by drum, IBC and ISO tank containers.
Requirements are also included for the manufacture and handling of synthetic fuel blends.
This Standard is recognised in ICAO Doc 9977 Manual on civil aviation jet fuel supply. All companies handling aviation fuel in all aviation fuel supply chains are encouraged to conform with the requirements.
