The Middle East Young Professionals Network (YPN) invites you to its upcoming event - a reflective learning workshop with Dr Waddah Ghanem FEI.

Workshop Objective
This workshop covers the key theoretical foundations for different learning styles and useful reflective learning techniques.

The workshop is focused on how young professionals and industry engineers can use these significant self-development tools to improve the effectiveness of their learning.

Whilst this process was originally developed for HSE professionals, it is practiced by many professionals in other disciplines such as those in law, education, management, etc.

The workshop will include the completion for the learning styles questionnaire as well as a discussion on the application of experiential learning to highlight the importance of self-development. The workshop is based on the publication “Reflective Learning – An essential guide for the self-development of health and safety practitioners”, Routlege, 2014.

Dr Waddah S. Ghanem Al Hashmi graduated from the University of Wales College Cardiff, School of Engineering, with a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Environmental Engineering.
He is the Senior Director for Sustainability, Operational and Business Excellence for the ENOC Group. He has previously held the position of Executive Director of EHSSQ & Corporate Affairs at the ENOC Group. In his capacity, Waddah was responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of best practices and standards for EHS Assurance, Business Excellence & Quality, Sustainability including sustainability reporting, Energy and Resource management and Lean Six Sigma (LSS) projects etc. He has had good experience previously with developing the systems and strategies for the Security and Risk Management functions as well as the Wellness and Social Affairs and advocated the continued improvement of the company’s EHSSQ culture through his leadership of the company’s EHSSQ regional team. Waddah also oversaw in the past, the Group’s Legal Affairs as well as the development and implementation of the ENOC Group Communication Strategy to support commercial growth and strategic positioning.

Waddah has spent the last 22 years moving from EHS Supervisor at the refinery to assistant EHS Advisor in the Group, later to grow the EHS Compliance function until he become Director, EHSQ Compliance in January 2010. He was appointed in 2015 as Executive Director, EHSSQ & Corporate Affairs and in June 2018 was given the role of Senior Director for Sustainability, Operational and Business Excellence. Since 2010, Waddah also served as the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dubai Carbon from 2010-2019.

Waddah holds two PG Diplomas in Environmental Management and Safety Management from the United Kingdom, an MSc in Environmental Sciences from the UAE University, an Executive MBA from University of Bradford in the UK. His Doctoral research focused on Corporate Governance and Leadership was also completed through the University of Bradford in the UK in 2014/2015.

His publications include various research and practitioner journal and conference papers in addition to 6 books: Safety Management (2010, CRC Press); Reflective Learning (2014, Routledge), 7 Fundamentals of Operationally Excellent Organisations (2015, CRC Press); The Fatihah: Opening of the Quran (2016, Partridge); EHS Governance and Leadership – The Making of High Reliability Organisations (2017, Routledge); and the 10-step MBA for EHS Practitioners (2018, Routledge). He is currently working on another two new books.

He is a Fellow of the Energy Institute and an Associate Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers in the United Kingdom. He is a Board Member of the not-for-profit Emirates Environment Group (EEG) and an Executive Committee Member (Board) the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF), Board/Council member of the Energy Institute (EI) in the UK and serves as the Hon. Chairman of the Energy Institute Middle East Branch. He is a member of the Institute of Directors, UK.

He was born and is based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates with his family.
