Energy Institute East Midlands Online Lectures
Join the Energy Institute East Midlands branch for two online lectures
Talk 1: Baselining in buildings: The energy industry's worst kept secret
Measurable Energy’s plug sockets recognise the appliances plugged in, monitor their energy consumption, and automatically switch them off when they're not needed.
Plug power is the electricity used by equipment like heaters and TVs that are plugged into power sockets or fused spurs. This typically accounts for 40% of total electricity usage in commercial buildings. Half of it is wasted, from devices being left on or in standby.
By combining machine learning technology with zero-effort appliance management, our sockets eliminate wasted energy in commercial buildings, turning the tide on carbon emissions”.
Talk 2: Energy Performance Certification reform for current climate
The talk will focus on the recent consultation on reform to the way EPC’s are carried out, furthermore, also looking at the MEES regulations and what it means in theory but how this may look very different in a practical sense.
Speakers
Speaker 1: Adam Wright, Product Director
Adam looks after measurable energy’s product function. After joining the company in the very early days during the initial prototype trials, he has been able to help craft and shape the measurable.energy platform as well as start delivering an ambitious future roadmap. Designed to be more than just an energy management platform, the m.e Platform provides tangible, measurable benefits like automated energy & emission savings, anomaly detection, preventive maintenance, behavioural change and demand flexibility. Adam’s experience comes from operations, BD and Product across the energy, utilities and automation industries.
Speaker 2: Jordan Turner - Lecturer at University College of Estate Management
Jordan worked in the property industry for 7 years across various roles in residential and commercial property covering lettings, sales, valuation, property and portfolio management and being a branch manager. Obtaining his MSc in Real Estate before training and qualifying as a RICS commercial surveyor, Jordan embarked on his PhD journey in 2023 looking at how residential housing can achieve sustainability through the use of innovative materials.
Jordan is now a full-time lecturer at UCEM teaching across a range of subjects in the built environment from undergraduate to Post Graduate level but is a module leader of the sustainability module for Level 4 students. Jordan has presented and published at conferences in the past 2 years as well as publishing his first journal article in 2024 titled The application for innovative methods and materials for greater sustainability in residential buildings in the UK: “a bibliometric review”.
Jordan is also the chairman of the Energy institute (East Midlands branch) where he and his colleagues organise events for members and look at ways it can positively impact the transition to cleaner energy.
