Event Details

On 17 April 2025, the Energy Institute Young Professionals Network (EIYPN) will host a LEARN event aimed at exploring the impact of global legislation on North Sea activity, including drilling, production and exploration. The event will delve into the compromises and risks associated with the decline in activity, the outlook for the North Sea, and the key insights young professionals in Aberdeen need to understand.

Rather than relying on media narratives, which often take a sensationalist and alarmist tone, this event will feature trusted sources and established industry professionals to provide balanced, accurate, and actionable information.

This event will highlight the evolving landscape while emphasising that this transition is a journey—not an immediate halt to oil and gas.

Recent consolidation within the industry, the new government and associated policy such as the windfall tax and the role of domestic production in the UK’s long-term energy security are some topics which will be covered in the panel discussion.

We’ll explore the broader impact on our city, from changes in population and redundancies to the ripple effects on service companies and local businesses like restaurants and bars.

Through engaging panel discussions, an interactive Q&A session, and real time statistics attendees will discover diverse oil and gas industry opportunities beyond traditional roles, get answers to burning questions in real time.
